Back to School – Drive-Thru Blessing

By | Community | No Comments
This past Sunday, 23 families loaded up in their cars and came to the church to receive a personal blessing from Fr. Ram and some of the St. George Staff! Over 30 kids were blessed and received a sticker to place on their electronic devices to remind them to not be discouraged…for God is with them and they are prayed for and loved by their St. George family! Families were also given prayers to do at home with the kids as well as a frozen treat to cool everyone off from the blistering Texas heat! Although masks were required, we were able to see the smiles & the joy in everyone’s eyes and felt the love of St. George flowing through all of us! Our back-to-school blessing looked different than it has in the past, but the love and blessings were still abundantly present! It was so wonderful to see everyone! We look forward to the day when we can all be together again!
For those who were not able to make it and would like to receive the sticker for their electronic devices, please contact Happy Wilson at hwilson@saintgeorgechurch.org!

Immigration Ministries

By | Called to Serve | No Comments

The Diocese of West Texas has recently initiated a robust Immigration Ministry to help our brothers and sisters in Christ going through the immigration process here in the U.S. St. George’s own Bernadette Williams, Director of Music Ministry, has joined the effort to assist this diocesan ministry with Haitian families who have recently been released from the detention centers by the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). In coordination with the immigration agencies in South Texas, Bernadette and other volunteers have been helping in many ways. Bernadette helps with translation services for the Haitians who are not able to speak English. The group recently helped by supporting a family that was expecting to go through the process of delivering her baby at a local hospital, which can be daunting if you don’t understand our healthcare system. They help other families to find sponsors for the next step of their journey. Join us in praying for our Haitian Sisters and Brothers on this very difficult journey of their lives and praying for the continued success and support of this diocesan ministry. Contact Bernadette at bwilliams@saintgeorgechurch.org for more information if you would like to be a part of this work!

Bishop Reed Offers a Video Update and Word of Encouragement to the Diocese

By | Uncategorized | No Comments

In his message, Bishop Reed shares, “It is a time of anxiety and uncertainty. The times right now are anxious enough, and the future is uncertain in so many ways, on so many levels. And yet, we continue to live with hope. We’re a people called to embody hope and resurrection, to trust that God is doing a new thing, and to look for the ways that God is acting today, and will be acting tomorrow to restore his people. In the midst of my own tendency to whine and moan and complain about how hard my life is right now, I am very mindful of how many people are truly suffering, how many people have experienced such depths of loss. We need to be mindful of that, and we need to look for ways not only to hold the Church together, but also how to break the Church apart, in effect, and send the Body out into the world in the name of Christ to love and serve and bring healing. Click here for the full video message.

Coffee and Conversation

By | Adult Formation Class, Adult Ministries, Fellowship | No Comments
Join us at 11:15 AM each Sunday, right after the live-streamed church service. In this Adult Formation Class, we read from a Biblically-based book, then discuss what we have read. There is no homework, so you are not left behind if you must miss a session for other Sunday activities. Currently, we are using the book The Language of God: A Scientist Presents Evidence for Belief. Like C. S. Lewis, he tells how he came to believe in God, and how he reconciles his belief with science.
You can email Peggy and Paul Foerster at foerster@idworld.net for the Zoom information and availability.

Backpack Drive

By | Community, Uncategorized | No Comments
This year the Backpack Drive for the Convening of Churches is going to look different because there is so much uncertainty of when students will be back in school. Backpacks will be distributed on July 24 from 8:00 AM- 12:00 PM at Coker UMC.
In order to limit in-person contact, Coker has purchased all of the backpacks and school supplies needed to fill approximately 600 to 700 backpacks. They need our help. They are asking for monetary donations this year to help cover the cost. St. George has participated in this event for many years, and this is our opportunity to participate again. Perhaps we cannot volunteer to help pack the backpacks or to help deliver them this year, but we can certainly participate by making a monetary donation. Please keep our tradition of helping those who need our help alive! Click here to contribute online, or you can mail in a check with Backpacks on the memo line. Thanks so much, St. George!!
